On Thursday I dropped the dry erase board on the top of my foot, and it appears I fractured one of the 9,000,000,000 or so small bones your foot is lucky enough to have. (Ok, there are really only 26.) If it isn't better soon it looks like a cast is in my future. Yesterday I hobbled my way to the library and picked up a bunch of books. I plan to not leave the house all week, and (for once in my life) just do what I m supposed to do and let it heal. Me time... hummm. Serendipitous finding #1.
During school yesterday Christian accidentally spilled blueberry blue wax all over my lovely beige carpet. Emergency run to pick up a friends rug steamer and two spots - one the size of a dinner plate and one the size of a dessert plate - are now reduced to small flecks I will pick off in the next few days. The good news is a) it happened on Marty's day of so he took care of it after the initial "Holy crap, pour water on that and scrub!" moment and b) while we had the steamer we cleaned most of the rest of the carpet. We will finish it this week. Clean carpet. Serendipitous finding #2.
We managed to get the garage cleaned out, so now the van can be tucked safely away from the rain and impending snow. In the process I got rid of some stuff that has been sitting there since spring/early summer waiting for me to post it to Freecycle. Someone can actually use stuff that would have otherwise gone to the dump. Serendipitous finding #3.
Friday was also the funeral or the local Police Officer who died during the Chicago Marathon. It was at the church right down the street from my house, and the whole area was overflowing with cars. There were Chicago Police cars there, many news crews and a bunch of people from the community.
The local news is saying that his heart condition was not undiagnosed, as the national media has said. Either way, it is sad. And finally (and possibly the result of massive amounts of pain medication...) Serendipitous finding #4. Life is too short to not live it the way you want to.
